Lipstick Jungle Handbag Trends For Less

Dear Twolia Divas,

What an over-the-top hectic week. I did THREE fashion segments, not to mention finishing up a celeb handbag piece for AOL and the usual bag-a-liciosu scoop for www.bagtrends.com. Speaking of the fashion segments, one was for FOX and focused on the handbag trends seen on Lipstick Jungle. Those girls sure can dress, or rather the stylist is quite fabulous. But, we don’t all have a stylist that lends us clothing values in the thousands! So, I found some great look-for-less options. Here’s a sneak peak of what FOX will post on their site next week:

Nico’s YSL tote will cost you $2295. This option from HYPE is $350. (Not that I don’t love the YSL. It’s yummy in person!!)

Victory loves this luxurious, python “River” tote from Sang A($2600). Banana Republic has a similar looking satchel in croc-embossed for $290.

Once the segment goes online, I’ll post the link :)

Slane & Slane Cuff on Lipstick Jungle

Dear Twolia Divas,

If you’re a fan of fashion and fabulous accessories then you better watch Lipstick Jungle. Those girls have a great stylist - Amanda Ross - and she’s got each character in killer heals, bag-a-licious purses, and divine baubles. Speaking of baubles, in a recent episode, Kim Raven (a.k.a. Nico) wore a Slane & Slane cuff. The ribbed cuff is a timeless style that can be worn from a work to a night out. And, with a price tage of over $1000 you better believe I would want to wear it every single day for the rest of my life. If you’re a lover of silver, this one’s for you. As always you can check out target, forever21, h&m, mango or zara for similar styles are moderate prices. For the real deal, head over to NeimanMarcus.com.

Economic Survival Guide by The Budget Fashionista Kathryn Finney

Dear Twolia Divas,

According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the disposable income of the average American fell by $93.3 billion this past August. At the same time, expenses are rising — personal consumption expenditures increased $3.9 billion the same month.  To face these hard times fashionably, I wanted to get you THE best budget shopping tips, so I turned to THE source Kathryn Finney, aka The Budget Fashionista. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, the disposable income of the average American fell by $93.3 billion this past August. At the same time, expenses are rising — personal consumption expenditures increased $3.9 billion the same month.  Kathryn Finney and the team at The Budget Fashionista, the top fashion blog, have put together the The Economic Survival Guide, a series of articles full of budget tips and tried-and-true economic advice for those dealing with the consequences of the shaky economy. “The Economic Survival Guide helps fellow budget shoppers  maintain the same level of fabulousness they had before the financial crash,” said Finney.

According to Kathryn, here’s just a few tips for recession proofing your closet:

1. Develop a Signature Piece. This is the piece you’re going to be known for—sort of like your calling card. It could be fabulous shoes, earrings, blazer, dresses, etc. Focus your shopping dollars on these pieces. My signature piece is crazy necklaces, which I find at thrift stores and stores like Forever 21.

2.  Use the Cost per Wear When Shopping. Frequent TBF readers know this is something I’ve been preaching for years. Value is the key when building a great closet and The Budget Fashionista’s cost per wear formula can help you get the most bang for your buck. The cost per wear is the price of an item/divided by the number of times you think you’ll wear it. So if an item costs $100, and you wear it ten times, the cost per wear is $10. The more you wear an item, the cheaper it becomes. This tip is especially important as it forces you to focus on the utility of an item, ie the usefulness of an item to you, rather than just the price. Paying $5 for something you never wear is $5 wasted.

3. Limit Trips to the Dry Cleaners. This is a real money zapper, even for yours truly, until I learned, and this may come as a shock, that you’re only suppose to dry clean your suits two to three times per year and even less for items like coats. So how do you keep it fresh in the meantime? Spritz it with a bit of fabric freshener.

4. Follow the 70/30 Rule. 70 percent of your closet should be classic pieces that never go out of style, a great white shirt from Old Navy or even a nice black suit that you can wear over and over again. The other 30 percent should be fun trendy items like a plaid skirt, funky bomber jacket, or a cool fedora.

For more of Kathryn Finney’s The Economic Survival Guide check out www.thebudgetfashionista.com. You can also take Kathryn’s wisdom with you to go thanks to her best-selling book.  This book is not another useless fashion guide – it’s smart, practical and fun just like Kathryn.

Primo Luxe Gloves and the Power of Publirents

Dear Twolia Divas,

I’m of the belief that my parents are my best publicists – and I don’t even need to pay them a monthly retainer. Love, hugs and kisses suffice. Seems I’m not the only one who has publirents (publicist parents).

Via Facebook, I connected with Renata M. and she introduced me to her daughter’s glove line www.primoluxe.com. I love the racer gloves in white – so Karl Lagerfeld. If you’re looking for that holiday wish list to pass on to the hubby or boyfriend, go all out and ask for the Jet Python Print gloves. Speaking of which … hey Steve I like these gloves. And in addition to Hanukah, we are engaged now and my silver birthday is coming up around the same time as the holidays. :)

Ladies, was that subtle enough? Hehe. Who wants to be suble anyway when we’re talking about great accessories crafted in Italy?

PS Oh, check out the full lookbook. The images are stunning and romantic. I’m thinking Vienna, the opera house, and walk in the Schonbrunn Palace.

Tarina Tarantino Jewelry on Gossip Girl

 Dear Twolia Divas,

I’ve never watched Gossip Girls, much to the dismay of my assistant who had to prep me on the characters before I did a “look for less” handbag segment based on the show. Apparently I’m not the only one not watching. I recently heard that the Neilson ratings are not too hot, but the fashion and people on the show have exploded. Speaking of the fashion, in a recent episode one of the characters (pictured here, I have no idea what her real name or character name is) is wearing a Tarina Tarantino necklace. To be honest, this necklace is not worth $150, at least not in my book. Check out Target and Forever 21 for similar looks for less. Do check out www.TarinaTarantino.com for other fun accessories. I love what they do with everyone’s favorite feline character, Ms. Hello Kitty! I have two cute necklaces from them that have Hello Kitty on it. I’m such a fan.

The Starter Wife Bags Lauren Merkin

Dear Twolia Divas,

I’m so excited that The Starter Wife is coming back for another season. I think the show is amazing and I personally believe that the execs originally saw it as a one-time special. But Debra Messing is amazing in this show, as is the rest of the cast. Can’t wait to see what happens when it goes back on USA Networks this Friday. I do know that handbag designer Lauren Merkin has gotten in on the buzz behind this show by crafting the “Molly” clutch, named after Messing’s character on the show Molly Kagan. USA Networks and Debra Messing actually worked with Lauren Merkin to come up with the perfect shape – genius promotion for all!

The “Molly” will make its television debut on the season finale of The Starter Wife, when it will appear on the arm of Molly (Messing) herself. The amethyst baby croc patent clutch with satin detailing will be offered as part of a national Text-To-Win Sweepstakes following the season finale and as a promotional giveaway via print and digital outlets. Fans of Lauren Merkin and The Starter Wife can also buy the clutch right now at www.laurenmerkin.com for $295.

The Starter Wife premieres on Friday, October 10 at 9/8c on USA Network.

Vintage Jewelry To Add To Your Collection

Dear Twolia Divas,

In my quest to at least devote some time to planning my wedding (did I tell you I picked a bag? Ya more on that in the next post) I found this cool site called Glam by Pam. I don’t just love it because I am “Pam” and I do normally feel pretty “Glam.” The site has some pretty cooky wedding accessories including jeweled bouquet holders and all kinds of sashes. For those not getting married, you’ll still enjoy the vintage jewelry selection.  I love the colors and detailing on this “Juliana 1950-60s” necklace. I don’t know if it’s worth $200, as I’m not familiar with the designer, but if you think about the fact that a necklace at Banana Republic can be over $125, then the price on this vintage piece seems more reasonable.
