Today I went all over trying to find out what exactly America’s favorite foods are. You know, there’s not a lot of stuff, come on someone, ask her in an interview or, Paparazzi follow her around a little bit please, just a little; find out her favorite restaurant but no, never mind, I discovered her by myself, eating Thai chicken curry and fried rice with fish cakes. Then I heard she went out to eat with Chelsea Clinton at a couple of places namely Hash House A Go-Go and Triple George and there’s pictures of her heading out to have lunch with friends. Oh well, like I said not a ton of faves and craves news but there’s lots of good food on Ugly Betty and who better to get a recipe from than Ignacio Suarez himself.

Ignacio’s Flan

From ABC’s BettySuarez.com - written by Ugly Betty herself1 cup white sugar
3 or 4 eggs (depending on your taste)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 can evaporated milk
1 tbsp vanilla extract

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Unless it is our oven, which runs too hot and then too cold so we set it at 200, then move the dial to 500 after 15 minutes.
  2. Melt sugar in a saucepan over low heat until it’s liquidy and golden. Tell a story about the old country being “sugar” and America being “syrup.” Pour liquid sugar into baking dish. Be sure to cover the sides.
  3. Beat eggs in a large bowl. Repeat over and over how mom made the best flan and this doesn’t even come close. Stir in condensed milk, evaporated milk and vanilla until smooth. Pour mixture into baking dish. Cover with “tin foil.”
  4. Bake for 60 minutes. Then let cool while you sneak a cup of coffee.
  5. Invert it carefully onto a precious serving plate your mother hand carved from Mexico. Share the serving plate story for the 800th time.
  6. Serve flan. Tell Justin it is “fat-free.”
